Troubled, isolated eighteen year old Amelia finds herself embroiled in her uncle's mission to uncover police corruption in a drug squad.  Amelia's ability to lip read - a skill acquired after she contracted spinal meningitis which left her deaf.  Family tensions, latent sexuality and the desire to be accepted all mingle with the intrigue and danger of the police case.
